A Wigan Council deputy director has been appointed as new regional boss for children and learners.
Government Office for the North West (GONW) announced the appointment of Deborah Brownlee as Director of Children and Learners.
She is currently Deputy Director, Services for Children and Young People at the Metro.
She has lead on commissioning str
ategy, planning, performance and best value.
Deborah will replace Nigel Burke in her new role when he retires later this year.
Liz Meek, GONW regional director, said: "We are delighted that Deborah will be joining us.
"Her experiences in children's services in local government will be a great asset to GONW and the challenges we face in shaping the future of the region's children.
"I would also like to pay tribute to Nigel for his work in GONW over the last 16 years. His wealth of knowledge in the areas of education, skills and family strategies has been invaluable."
Deborah's previous positions have included chief executive of Wigan Careers Service, Positive Futures Ltd and Acting CEO of Wigan Borough Chamber of Commerce.
She was appointed assistant director of children and young people's services in Wigan in 2006 and promoted to Deputy Director in 2007.
