Wigan Warriors' play-off match against the Bradford Bulls on Friday will not take place at the JJB Stadium and will be switched to either Warrington or Widnes.
The joy of unexpected home advantage lasted less than 24 hours when Warriors were forced to tell the RFL that their ground was unavailable due to Wigan Athletic's Premier League match there against Sunderland less than 24 hours later.

But the game will not be switched to Bradford – instead it will be played at another venue in the North West – at either Warrington's Halliwell Jones Stadium or Widnes' Hobart Stadium.

Final arrangements of venue and ticket details were due to be confirmed later today.

Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan said: "We are naturally disappointed that
the JJB cannot be made available.

"We have explored fully with the RFL the options of playing on Thursday or Sunday, but neither is possible for competition integrity issues so we prefer to play on a North West ground of our choice."

Wigan thought they had earned a bonus game at the JJB after Huddersfield's stunning 38-20 result at Warrington on Saturday.

Warriors needed Giants to win in order to secure fourth place in the table.

And the Yorkshire side – shot through with ex-Wigan players including Stephen Wild, Kevin Brown and Martin Aspinwall – did just that, cruising into a 24-6 half-time lead and rarely looking threatened.

Warriors second-row Harrison Hansen watched the game on television along with several team-mates, including Micky Higham and Iafeta Paleaaesina.

Straight after Warriors' gutsy 16-16 draw at St Helens on Friday evening, Hansen had predicted Giants might go to Warrington and win.

And speaking after Huddersfield's success, he said: "I thought they could do it and they didn't let us down, although I don't suppose they did it for Wigan.

"They're a proud side and they would have wanted to win it for themselves, but they still did us a big favour in the process.

"Wildy had a great game. I think we all owe him a couple of drinks.

"It would have been great to be playing at the JJB in front of our own fans, as we said weeks ago it was our aim to finish fourth and get a home tie in the first round of the play-offs.

"And while we had to depend on other results on the last day of the season, we still regard it as an achievement to finish fourth, even if we now have to play the game elsewhere."
The other play-off game this weekend sees Catalans Dragons at home to faltering Warrington.

Top side St Helens will face runners-up Leeds the week after.

Did no-one at Wigan hierachy think we would finish 4th? Businessmen who have no contingency plans in place or are able to provide clear communication to those who matter- the fans.

very disappointing Wigan board not to view the fixture dates 6 months ago

What a joke! The lads work hard all season to get a home tie, and now we can't even play at home!

We need to start getting plans drawn up for our own ground!

U know what I say fans,
1) black out the JJB logo on your shirt on Friday night, cover it up with anything, tape felt tip pen etc etc,
2) turn up outside the Latics fixture on Saturday and make one hell of a noise in non violent protest, giving the JJB stadium something else to deal with on their precious Latics matchdays.
3)Next week, when we WILL have another home fixture if Warrington beat Catalan, buy matchday tickets and nothing else, boycott the bars and the betting boothes.

Very disappointed with JJB, RFL and Football league NOT communicating about fixture lists before the start of the seasons. Warriors Huddersfield match was postponed due to the state of the pitch (talk at the time was playing elsewhere) why can the Sunderland match not be postponed to allow Wigan to play their 4th place play off game at HOME.I want to know who will be paying for my family to travel to the away match? Extra expense we can do without - will we still be entitled to 20% discount for season ticket holders off the price of match tickets,as advertised on the Warriors website Saturday evening after we found out we had remained at 4th place??

Well, well, well. After all your heroics on friday you wont even be playing at home. Chucked off the JJB by a second rate Prem soccer team who has more away fans than home fans watching them! Oh well you are all welcome to use a proper RL ground if you want in Warrington? I will meet up with you all for a beer in my local The Hawthorne!

This disgraceful situation confirms several things that we have long suspected:
1 A meaningless Premier League match between two teams that will finish in the bottom half of the league carries more weight than a vital Super League fixture;
2 David Whelan/Whelco Holdings (has anyone seen 'supporter' Mr Whelan at any Warriors fixtures this season)care little for rugby league despite protestations to the contrary;
3 There are probably some 'afters' here related to the justified criticism that the Whelan/Lindsay era has had from the new owners;
4 The talk of 'donating the JJB to the people of Wigan' seems a bit empty today;
5 The Warriors contract for playing HOME fixtures at the JJB seems far from water-tight.

It's depressingly bad day for the most famous club in rugby league but let's hope team and fans can rise above this snub - and yes it's time to look at our own stadium.

An utter disgrace and shows that money and the hype of the premiership conquers all.

I cant see why both games could not have been played. Am sure that the KC stadium held a football and RL game on the same day. To find a venue with so little notice will be hard. You will have policing problems and other factors that need to be taken into consideration.

Am happy for you to use Knowsley Rd if we can have some of the revenue. In all seriousness, you may mock but it holds more than Warrington or Widnes and is only down the road from Wigan.

Sad day for RL as it proves the contempt that it is viewed with in relation to football. Wigan Rugby would have had a higher attendance than the football match anyway. I think the rest of RL is with you and has some sympathy on this one.

Cherrywarrior... while i agree with the comments you make and the ideas for your protesets....but they will not happen or at least if 1 or 2 people do it, it will have no impact. Start a facebook group urging fans to do this "protest" and get them to post pics afterwards. No, didn't think so. waste of time, you'll be there with ur jjb logo in full view, betting slip in hand and a pint and a pie/hotdog etc. Face facts, the warriors have had thier moment on the 80's and 90's, now they are just 2nd rate. The latics are the team for wigan at the moment. It may change it the future, but thw warriors will need silverware to prove hey are any good, latics only need to stay up. And no i'm not a latics fan or wariors fan.
